Do you know what happens to your personal data in cloud AI?

Most people don’t.

Here’s what happens.

01It leaves your computer

Everything you type goes to their servers.

0 messages saved on their servers.

02What happens there

Read.

Human reviewers — including outside contractors — read some Gemini chats.

Kept.

Chats they review are kept for up to three years — even after you delete them.

Trained on.

ChatGPT learns from your chats unless you find the switch and turn it off.

OpenAI, data controls

Not deleted.

OpenAI, on the court order

Not protected.

Unlike a doctor or a lawyer, ChatGPT has no legal confidentiality, says OpenAI’s CEO. In a lawsuit, chats can be handed over.

03It learns who you are

It remembers.

With Memory on, ChatGPT can remember details from your past chats — and from connected apps like Gmail.

OpenAI Help Center

It sells ads.

Since February 2026, ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans show ads picked from what you talk about. OpenAI says advertisers don’t see your chats.

No way out.

Since December 2025, Meta uses what you tell its AI to target ads on Facebook and Instagram — with no way to opt out, outside the EU, UK and South Korea.

Your questions. Your ideas. Your secrets. They stay yours.

Fair questions.

Is it really private?

Yes. Lockedmind’s AI runs inside your browser, on your own computer, and your chats are saved there too. Nothing you type is sent anywhere — once a model has downloaded, you can turn off the Wi-Fi and keep going.

How can it be free?

Your computer does the work, so there are no servers to pay for. No account, no subscription, no ads.

Does Lockedmind show ads or use my chats?

No. There are no ads, no accounts and no trackers. Your chats are saved in your browser, on your computer — Lockedmind has no server for them to go to.

Is it as smart as ChatGPT?

Not at everything. Cloud AI runs giant models in data centres; Lockedmind runs smaller ones that fit on your computer. They’re very good at everyday questions, writing, code and pictures — and they keep your secrets.

What do I need?

A laptop or desktop from the last few years, with Chrome, Edge or Safari 26. The recommended model is a 2.3 GB download; pictures add 6.6 GB. More memory lets you run bigger models.

How do I delete things?

Delete a chat from its menu and its pictures go with it. Models and the picture maker can be removed in Settings. It’s all on your computer, so deleting really deletes.

Where do the models come from?

They’re open models from Alibaba, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Mistral and others, downloaded once from Hugging Face. See them all on Lockedmind Models.

Who makes Lockedmind?

An independent project — not affiliated with Google, OpenAI or any model maker. The code is public on GitHub, so anyone can check what it does.

Take your AI back.

Chat, code and pictures — private, free, and yours.
